May Ride!!
« on: April 23, 2007, 12:59:41 PM »

The sand is calling me.  If you close your eyes while the sand whips its way over the peaks you can hear it say "Dune Dude..."

Who's up for a trip May 17-20?
My wife wants to get the new KFX sandy.  Plus, I get to ride the other one all by myself.

I think VP is going.  No place has been determined yet.

I have made no reservations - but I was already planning to go that week-end.  Most likely the Winchester area.

By the way I thought I heard the wind whispering Saaannnddd-Flickkker

So, let us know your plans and we'll see if we can at least visit a little.

This is the week-end after the HomeBuilder show at Josephine County FairGrounds.  And, Mother's day

Windy Bay is the place.  I think I finally convinced VP to take the Dodge out into the sand.  (I don't think it will hurt it!?)  We will try to get into sand site 47 or 48.  These are out by the 3rd staging area.

And no, It definitely says "DUUUUUNNEE DUUUUUUDDEE"

Don't forget that the CalNevOre is at Moonrocks on Memorial Day Weekend.  Would really be great for someone from Ore to be there.  Tho' I've yet to ride Moonrocks I've been informed that it's trails, not dunes....so put on those seldom or unused trail tires and give them some exercise!!

Where is Moonrocks?  Sounds painful if you fall off the ATV.

I didn't check with my better half before thinking, bad is me.  She has a family reunion Sunday, but I told her we may have to just be back for it.

If I were you I would bypass the sand camping and hit the new county campground.  Half Moon Bay.  Just spent 4 days there and it rocks!  I will not stay anywhere else in Winchester Bay any more.  Its my new #1 place!

DJ,

Where is this new county campground?

Half Moon Bay is about 1/2 mile past Discovery Point on the right hand side.  The entrance to it is directly below the light house.  Sand Access 24/7, no time limits like DP, + you can have cold tasty adult beverages, $12.00 a night, HUGE pull through spots, and SUPER LARGE Group sites for $50.00 a nite.  And trust me, these groups sites are the BIG.  We put 5  haulers in one group spot and still had enough room to park 5 crew cab full size trucks!

Here is an overview of Group Site E @ Half Moon Bay Campground. You can see how BIG they are!
The campground is first come first get, no RSVP, EXCEPT for Group Sites.  The group sites can be reserved by calling the camp host at Windy Cove B.

I really agree with DJ. I am not going to run down anywhere else here in Winchester bay, but this campground is by far the best. One word of caution. When you cross the highway and get onto the sand access road, you better not ride over 10 miles an hour. If you do and get caught, it is automatically $400.00 fine. No questions. They are simply getting tired of people that comes out of DP and wherever and riding way to fast to get to the dunes. To many people getting hurt. We did find some little hideouts where the police set at and when you get to them, they pull out in front of you and make your day. Watch out because the police is not going to be easy anymore this year anywhere on the dunes. We have had a way to many accidents already this year.

Very nice looking campground.

I'm glad to hear that law enforcement is finally doing something about enforcing the laws that are in place.  I was getting pretty discouraged to see all the idiots doing whatever they wanted regardless of the laws and posted restrictions.  Then when they have accidents it takes away the rights to ride of the people of this forum that ride responsibly.

It's me, VP and family May 17-20 at Sand Camping spot #38 at Winchester Bay.  Who else is able to stop by and say Hey?  Towman, we will be expecting to get a visit from you!
