Toy Haulers
« on: April 04, 2007, 09:14:53 AM »

I see that this forum is mainly for the guys, but I hope you don't mind if I chime in once in a while.  Smiley  This is Amanda
( 4 Wood In Da Sand! )   We're looking for a Toy Hauler.  Just wondering if anyone knows of some good internet sites to find them.  I've been on RV Trader and Used RV. com.  Any others?  We're heading over to Grants Pass/Medford this weekend to look around too.  Other than having a good floor plan layout, are there any features that we should be looking for?  We're wanting a pretty good sized one.  Any problems with finding parking for the longer ones?  We'd like a 5th wheel too, BUT we need to find out if we can tow it with our lifted Ford truck.  It's an F-350 and has about 8" of lift!  Any ideas?  One guy at an RV lot said "no problem".......  Huh??  Salesguy!    Anyways, any ideas from you guys would be great!  Thanks.

Hey Amanda, its DJ, (or Jay) just down the road from ya.

Here is what I have been doing.

Searching ALL toyhaulers manufactures websites to find a layout I like. Once I found a layout that we liked, we started shopping around to see where they are located.
Now you and the hubby are headed to Medford, that is where we bought ours (at Triple A RV), I have learned that you may want to head north to http://www.rvcorral.com/ or http://www.bigboytoyhauler.com/.
From what I have found, they seem to have some of the best deals in Oregon.
I also looked at http://www.rvdirect.com/index.asp.  They have a great price on the Forest River Cheroke Wolfe Pack.

Hope this helps, or maybe we can get together and talk some more soon!  Look forward to meeting you guys!  Heck, your right up the road!

Also, I don't know how big of a trailer you guys are looking for, but here is a VERY NICE DEAL that we are looking into.  Maybe if we both buy they will give us an even better deal!

That's a nice unit - My wife wants me to buy a toy hauler trailer - but then she's always ready for something new.  It's not going to happen for awhile that's for sure.

I actually called them yesterday because I figured that the deal was too good to be true.
I talked to John Price (or Pierce) and he said that they can't get them in fast enough.  They are selling about 30 a month at that price!  And yes, it does come with all the stuff that is listed............ Shocked

4 woodindasand.  There is only 2 things that you might want to think about when buying a hauler. 1  is be sure to buy one with a built in generator. A lot of people says that they will just go buy a cheeper one and use it.  Well I have had 2 haulers, both with built in gennys and I can tell you that when it comes time to use the microvave, toaster, or anything else electric, it is well worth paying the price for a "push button".  I will not have a hauler without a built in genny.   And 2nd.  Be aware of the places available for BIG trailers. Most of the state forest service campgrounds down here on the coast does not have very many spaces for big trailers.  My 5th wheel is 32 foot and we have a hell of a time getting it into Spinreel campground.  I want a bigger one but be aware of the places that will not be able to take you.

Thats what my trailer is. Sandpiper Sport. Built by Forrest River. There is a factory in Portland that builds them. One of my speakers didn't work when I got it home and so I called the dealer. He give me the number of the manufactor in Portland. I called him and he sent me out the speaker as we talked. He didn't even want the old one back.  My trailer has just about all the extras you can put on it and it still cost a lot less than the other trailers that we looked at. We are really happy with it.

I work for a Triple a rv, & what I can say is, if you find a floor plan that you like & a price that you like buy it!! They all use mostly the same components & lots are built on the west coast. I believe in buyng local but thats just me.. I will say that there are dealers, not mine, that will not want to work on your rv if you did not buy it from them.  when people come in & complain about the rv they bought 200 miles away & demand that you fix it, it can be a little annoying but a good dealer will say ok, lets get you fixed up.  Not all will but the good ones will. If you are happy with the deal & the floor plan/options then go for it.

I have a 2008 Weekend Warrior LE3705 which is a 37' 5th wheel, (actually it is 39' 10" long), that I tow with a F-350 lifted 6". I did have to have the axles reversed on the trailer and have a new entry step installed with 3 steps which was done at the Warrior factory. It sits perfectly level behind the truck. I agree with the statement that was made by one of the other members regarding the generator. It is a must and Warrior installs a good one, the 5.5 KW Onan. The other must have for me is the onboard fuel station. Warrior now has a 20 gallon tank for the gen. and a 40 gallon tank for the toys.
