Bomb scare rattles small Oregon town

MEDFORD, Ore. -- A bomb scare closed down a Medford television station Wednesday morning.
The FBI and a SWAT team were called to KTVL Channel 10 after the station’s general manager noticed a suspicious van parked near the building, according to the station’s Web site.
Sources at KTVL said a man set off flares and refused to get out of the van, demanding political asylum. Police evacuated the television station and a nearby radio station and closed several roads while they negotiated with the man. He later surrendered peacefully to officers.
Witnesses told the Medford Mail Tribune that the van had slogans painted on the side that said “Napalm morning” and “2 North” which was an apparent reference to a psychiatric ward at the Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.
There were no reports of anyone hurt.
