Can I????
« on: February 07, 2007, 11:02:25 PM »

I am looking at possibly getting an enclosed trailer.  I do NOT yet have any electric brake set up for the truck.

Am I ok to tow an EMPTY 20 ft enclosed trailer from WA back to Oregon without the electric brakes set up?? (with the Dodge 2500).

I would of course be very careful, etc etc.

Just wondering what your thoughts are.....

Thanks! Smiley

I always lean towards " better safe than sorry " . Brake controllers dont cost that much ( around $100 ) and they dont take very long to install . Im sure you'll be fine , but what if someone else did something stupid ? If you are going to Wa. , get your brake controller , swing through Mcminnville , and I'll wire it in for nothing . You could probly do it yourself pretty easy with the plug that is supplied in your glove box by dodge . Piece of cake Wink

quick question here.......does the trailer have breaks on it?

I don't think you would have a problem towing it empty.........I wouldn't tow it full of bikes and gear without the breaks hooked up.........but, if you have the $ to buy the break set up for your truck I would do exactly what Shane said.

Let him put it in, I have seen his work, he can do a good clean install on it for you for a great price!  (free)!

I think law says 3,000 lbs and over requires brakes for OR and WA.

That's only because 2fun has a Dodge Spam, er I mean Ram.  Shane wanted $1500.00 to let me park my Chevy in his driveway.  And only if it was clean and I pulled all the Chevy badges and emblems off.

I like Dodges because they can have a huge robot punching them and they don't even dent.  What's that grill made out of, some kind of space age super metal?

Shane, that is a very nice offer!
Perhaps I will look you up after I get a controller.  (asking questions in another thread).

In short, the trailer in WA was sold before I could get a chance to take a look at it  Embarrassed

I am still looking at a 17 1/2 foot snowmobile trailer though.  Its in Sun River, so I have not had a chance to take a look at it.

If I feel that I am not up to par on setting up the electric brakes, I would be more than happy to provide you with some beer for your efforts on help with wiring the controller.
If I do wind up coming over for some help, what kind of beer would you prefer?? Grin
