Hey y'all, We need support to kill the Senate Bill 49 and here is how you can help! From our friends up North... Saddle up the horses everybody - we need to get everyone to the Rally next week. Devlin is not letting this one go. We need people - families, kids, ATV clubs, dealers, and other interested agencies. We must stop 49. Please get the word out - we need lots of people - no bikes or quads as we are limited and can only bring four. We need to meet at the Capitol steps at 3:00 on the 13th. Come early - bring quarters for the parking meters. Try to ride together as parking is limited. Represent us well....bring posters, safety brochures, etc.
Who's going? We need to set up a car pool for those heading to Salem.

I will be leaving Tuesday Morning to get up to Salem by 10 am. A small and vocal group and I are meeting with some of the Senators and hopefully with a person from the Parks Dept. Then we will be letting it rip at the Rally! I hope to see you there...

My father did not lose his life as a veteran and my children and I did not serve our country in times of crisis and war to protect our cherished way of life to simply have it governed by those that think we live under their personal little kingdoms. The last time I checked, we live in a democracy. We must remember that in a democracy; it is the free and equal right of every person to participate in a system of government. We do this by electing representatives of the people by the majority of the people. We live in a system of government based on the principle of majority decision-making. Our elected officials need to start remembering that or we will.
As you all know, there will be a rally on the steps of the capitol on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 from 3:00 to 5:00. This is the time for all of us to show that we are one voice that demands the recognition of our elected officials. I realize the time and the distance will be difficult, but if this issue has some meaning for you and your family, then I plead with you to be there. Do not assume someone will stand in your place to represent your concerns. Even if this Bill does not directly affect you, it will affect your future generations. For those that can't make it, then help by making calls to Devlin and Bates and voice your support of the rally on Monday or tuesday....PLEASE.
This is our time.

Man, I am dieing to know what's going on with this Rally....
I truly am up set over this issue. I grew up riding motorcycles, safety is always an issue, but I never thought I'd live someplace that would tell me I couldn't teach and share off roading, target practice, and a general love of the outdoors with my children. Of course, I'm sure they want hiking and birdwatching to remain family activities, that is until that's all that's left to do, and so many people are doing it that it interferes with everybody else's birdwatching. Then they'll have to put limits on that.
I'm disgusted over this, as I'm sure you all are too.

I think Lindy can answer that better then me. but she did say during her speech that Devlin did back off just a little and agreed to let kids ride on private propery. The only problem is that is where all of the serious accidents have happened. But he did give a inch, ok a 1/2". I received a letter from Devlin this afternoon and he stated that we are in the early stages of making this bill and getting it correct. I just don't think he is going to back down on this and thats why we need to write all of our congressmen and let they know how we feel. We have to do it with respect otherwise they just push delete and your letter is gone. But if you do it right they do get back to you, severial replies are here. http://www.nwquadriders.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1760

Hi All!! It went great....I was also in the best of company. Terry, Tom, and I went to visit several Senators and it went very well. We also spoke with Devlin and he was very nice but totally out of his element. Anna, his aid is not pleasant at all and was actually rude to Devlin. She is a pretty serious environmentalist and has stated that she wishes we would ban all quads as the take away from the beauty of Oregon. The do not have any clue about what we do - they have been so influenced by Sue Rabe, who is now a member of Safekids.....I knew there was a stronger connection than what she led us to believe....Anyhow, Devlin offered to get back to us when it went to hearings and I pretty much said that we would not support this bill in any form. They did not include us when we were bending over backwards and begging to be involved, we were done...We will not accept a watered down bill so they can have a win. We can not let Sue get her foot in the door in Oregon. From everything we can tell everyones letters are very effective - please keep them coming...phone calls are great too. The Rally was awesome. We had a great turn out and you couldn't ask for more behaved children. I was very proud. We had a great showing and it nearly brought tears to my eyes seeing everyone out there. Salem Sand club did a great job at setting up, the Hector family brought a quad and a million petitions too. We have to keep fighting and not let up. Keep telling more people, keep calling and writing letters...If they have a hearing, we may consider another Rally. We had great news coverage... very positive on KEX, Lars Larson, Democrat Herald, and the Statesman Journal. I understand the Capitol Press is writing a story, Fox and the Oregonian were also there. I worry abit about the Oregonian but it is a risk we have to take. We got slammed again by KATU but once again I called and pointed out that his bill affected children riding with their families - their clips of crashes were of adults doing stupid things. I invited them to join us this weekend to get better footage. I hope they take us up on it...but not likely. I just don't think they like us. Even at the rally they were standoffish......so we had a feeling. Shame on them - those kids deserved more.
So there is your update - and bottom line is you guys ROCK!!!! Keep bringing on....

Sorry for being tardy in my replies. I had to take a break from the action. The Rally went very well. Lindy is one person I never want to make angry. She is very well organized, driven and passionate about ATVing. Thanks to her this Bill will hopefully get defeated. Keep your letters to the Senators coming. There will be no compromise on this SB 49. They did not include us in drafting the Bill and they are not including us in the Amendments. This is a slap in the face to all of you responsible and experienced riders out there. These Senators tried to sneak in a Bill on "Safety" for a sport they know nothing about. Now, they want to try and make changes to soften the requirements. Based on what? All of their collective years of not knowing anything about riding ATV's. Or are they only listening to the "groups" that hate ATV's.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
My wife and I wanted to get involved in the sport of ATVing while watching people ride from the Light House above Winchester Bay. It looked like everyone was having so much fun and you could see families riding together in the sand. From the first time we rode as a family we met the nicest people and knew this was the best activity for our family to be involved in. Seeing all of you avid ATVer's come together for this cause strengthens our love for this sport. It's the people, the pleasure and the passion that makes this family activity so awesome.
