ATV Safety Training
« on: December 08, 2006, 02:19:26 PM »

Safety Training is not just for the wee little ones in your family unit.  Effective in 2008 everyone that rides an ATV on public land will be required to have been through ATV Safety Training.  It is a similar set up to boating requirements in Oregon, that in order to pilot a motorized boat, you have to complete a Safety Training Course.

Here's the scoop:

Children 15 years old and under must go through the class on a quad that is the "recommended size", by the manufacturer, for their age.  Cost is $35.00

Adults and children 16 years old and older can take the class on any size quad.  Cost is $125.00.
If the quad you train on was bought new or if you are certain the quad has never been through a training course, the VIN will be used to save you $100.00 off the price of training by the manufacturer.  And currently, if you are a member of Temporary Insandity, the club is paying $25.00 towards the cost of Safety Training.  (Another great reason to become a member).  Some Manufacturers are also sending cash rebates back to you, the owner, for completing Safety Training.  What more could you want?

So sign up for a Safety Training Class near you.  The class takes around 3 hrs to complete and once you have your certificate it is good for life.

But wait, there's more!!  If you call in the next 5 minutes you will receive an official duraraptor autograph.

CORRECTION!!!!      CORRECTION!!!!     CORRECTION!!!![/color]

I found out from Sue, ATV SAFETY TRAINING SOMETHINGOROTHER, that for anyone 16 and older to get the $100.00 credit, the quad they train on must have been purchased new.  Meaning that it is originally titled to them or their parents from the dealer.  It does not matter if the quad was almost new or that it has never been through training before.  The quad itself does not need to be new when you train just that you are the first owner.

They will check your VIN at the training course and they will search the owner info back at "Head Quarters".

How could they track ownership info???  I bought mine new (except for the arctic cat) but I have the MCO's on all of them never titled through the Dmv. So I don't know how they could track any owner info, because we are not required to title them, Even if we were, the information from dmv is covered by the privacy act and they could not find out who the owners are.

I don't know how their magical powers work.  She had said that "they" showed the original owners name was differnet from mine.  Maybe it is from something that transpires at time of purchase from the dealer.  It reports the sale to an individual using the VIN number to the manufacturer.  This info is probably then used by the manufacturer to verify who qualifies for the $100.00 credit and any incentive program to take the training course.

FYI. The ASI (ATV SAFETY INSTITUTE) will only accept a vin for the credit once. I dont know about how Oregon ATV fund tracks it. You can call the ASI number and give them your vin and see if it has been used.

CORRECTION....    Huh

We have been the recipiant of some bad information in regards to "Safety Training".  It is not a requirement at this time.  It is currently one of the House Bill Proposals from the Parks Department.  Sorry, if this caused any confusion.  Because it sure has on our side...  Embarrassed

Safe riding...

That's right Dun Dude, and I know with our young man we would have happily sent to the course.  Ah, but for the little glitch (only on approved sized quads), for Colton that would have been a 50, and I wouldn't want to buy a quad for a course.  I suppose one might rent though, hummmm.
Now after a year and half of riding time in I doubt he'd learn much.
