well, I never thought I would say this, but I can honestly say, I saw the Tsunami, and watched a massive amount of water move very quickly!
Yesterday, some of you may know about the tsunami that struck our region. I will say that although it was not big, to see the water move in a way that was so indescribable, it was amazing. We did not suffer any damage here in Brookings, but, down south in Crescent City, CA. they did have some pretty good damage. Sunk a boat or two, and smashed up the docks in the harbor. Here is a news link to the local paper there. It is only 20 miles south, and it hit there about 45 mins after it hit here.
We (coast guard) watched the effects from our station, however, I do NOT recommend anyone be near the ocean during a tsunami no matter how big or small. The one yesterday was said to be "Non-distructive", well, try telling people in Crescent City that with sunk boats.

*Remember,
Sudden, powerful waves can engulf the entire beach, knocking people down or throwing them violently against nearby rocks. Once in the water, strong currents can pull people out to sea. Waves breaking on the beach can also toss driftwood or debris on beach-goers. Be aware of rising tides - high tides can trap people on rock formations and in coves. Always let someone know where you are going and walk with a buddy.
