While at Dunefest the E-ton decided that it did not want to run right. Maybe it was to many late nights and mixing energy drinks with alcohol. (oh wait, that was someone else! ) It ran fine the first few days then it struggled to make any power. After towing it back to camp I checked the plug (brown), checked the air filter (clean), and checked the belt (no residue or sign of failure). I even checked out the fuel filter and it was fine. I ran it (sorry to allstateagent for fuming them out )and the engine seemed to rev OK with just a slight hiccup going to full throttle. I had my daughter ride it around the camp site and it seemed OK. We tried it the next day and it was even worse in the sand. You had to push it to get it going and if there was any slight hill or loose sand it was done. Yesterday, I tore the thing apart and have it sitting on jack stands in the shop. I took the carburetor off and completely cleaned it with cleaner and reinstalled it. It stumbles very badly to full throttle and will not hold WOT. It also labors to rev up very unlike a two stroke. Plus, there is no load on the engine. I pulled off he case and the CVT is working correctly, it just won't make any power. I have surmised, by my limited powers of deduction, that the problem is either a bad ignition module or an internal engine failure (low compression or valve problem). Does anyone have any advice or some kind words to say at its eulogy if it is terminal?

would you be able to do an compression check? If it is dead I would like to say how nice of a machine it was and I liked the little red light in the front that bounced back and fourth. If I keep talking the tears are too much.

Good news, Good news. It's alive!!!One item I overlooked was air out of the engine. Even though the carb was cleaned and I took the air filter off the air needs to make it out of the engine. Remember the seen in Beverly Hills Cop, when Eddie Murphy sticks the bananas in the detectives tail pipe. When they try to follow him the car sputters and stalls in the middle of the street. The spark arrester was plugged causing the inability for the engine to rev. Once I removed the spark arrester the engine goes like a r----- ape. The spark arrester is soaking in carb cleaner over night, then I will reinstall. I then ordered an Uni Filter with OuterWear cover to get rid of that stock filter thing. I also ordered new rear brake pads. They were completely destroyed in just two summers. Must be too much power from that 90cc.

Good find, with all the money you just saved yourself you should throw an aftermarket pipe on it.

The E-ton is mostly back together with only a few left over parts. This was an ingenious plan on my part to reduce weight and increase power! (at least that's what I tell my wife) Date Posted: September 12, 2006, 06:03:24 PM
We attacked the dunes in Florence this past weekend and had a great time. The E-ton had a bad battery and I purchased one at the Polaris Dealer on the corner of South Jetty Rd. The quad started great but had difficulty maintaining revs. I was riding it around to check out my repair work and while under full throttle the quad would bog big time, like the throttle cable had broken. It made for some interesting riding with me balancing on the mini with one knee on the seat at full throttle, to all of the sudden have the power cut out and the quad almost stop in the sand. (I only fell off twice). The Polaris dealer thought it was running lean and probably needs to be re-jetted. They thought the E-tons run lean to begin with and the Uni Filter I installed was probably adding to the lean problem. I had to manipulate the choke to get it to run without the bog for my daughter to ride. The bike felt hot when it was run, but I have not checked the plug since I have been home. So next on the agenda for the 90 is to re-jet the carb and get it running strong. Side note NOTHING IS MORE COOL AND SMOOTH THAN AN ADULT ON A MINI QUAD FLIPPING OVER THE HANDLE BARS......TWICE

Hey Dune Dude
I'm having the same problems with our E-ton 70. At first I thought it might be old gas then changed the plug but it is still having the same problems. It will start when choked but die when you take it off. I like you I tried to ride around with the choke on and figure out what was wrong. I think my next step is to take the carb. apart and see if that is the problem. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

The 90 was always the same way. When it was cold you had to leave the choke on to have it start and keep it running. However, when it warmed up it ran fine with the choke off. The plug on the 90 always looks good (brown with no build up). It smokes like crazy when it is cold. I have replaced the 2-cylce oil with a smokeless synthetic brand. I wonder if the 2-cycle oil coated the pulg making it apear to be running the right mix of air and gas, when in fact it was running lean. I believe the 70's and the 90's run the same size jet (85). I will let you know how she runs when I start messing with the jetting.
We have a Kymco 50 (2-stroke) that has no choke and this thing always starts and runs great. Date Posted: October 13, 2006, 05:40:44 PM The E-ton 90 is running lean. I went out to the shop and prepped all the quads and trailer for their winter hibernation on Saturday. I ran the E-ton for 10 minutes and checked the plug. It was showing white on the plug confirming the lean condition. The next step will be to increase the jet a size or two.

I know this is late in the game to be putting my 2cents in but here goes anyway. The 50cc to 110cc quads are very consienous of every change you make on them. So what I am saying is you have to pay close attention to everything you do to one of them. Changing one thing means changing 2 more and get them all to balance together. So if you change the air filer, the the gas and exhaust must be changed also. I am not sure about the carb on the E-ton, but on the Unison (which uses the same motor) the jets are changeable. I would not go more than 2 sizes up as you will start to run into the problem of not enough air-flow that the carb can allow. But one size at a time should tell you what you want to know . Call me for any info, I will try to help or get you phone numbers of some-one who can.. 541-361-0433

Hey bumblebee, welcome to the forum. Thanks for the info. I can use all the help I can get. The quads are tucked away for a long winters nap. I will get around to the E-ton after the holidays. I will stay in touch. DD

E-ton update,
I was over at a local shop last week who deals with the E-ton brand. I am going to bring the 90 over to them and have there very knowledgable mechanic fix the lean condition. I guess he can tap (bore) the jet to make it larger and get the bike running great.
I'll get you posted on the outcome. Posted on: January 15, 2007, 12:38:18 PM The e-ton will be making a trip to the doctors next week to get the jetting fixed. I'll let you all know how it goes...

We will stay tuned and hope the doc can fix this baby. I know you have had lots of problems last year with this. Our fingers are crossed for you.

She's all dropped off at the fix it place. Should get it back in a couple of weeks. Posted on: February 27, 2007, 01:40:39 PM The E-ton is back and ready to run. The new jetting has it running great and my daughter is all excited about shredding some sand. Posted on: March 20, 2007, 08:18:45 AM The E-ton ran great during the Spring Break Ride. My daughter is very happy with it and so am I.
