I have an 2002 Chevy Duramax and last Thurs. I started it up to leave a job site and could not get it to steer. Plus, it was all I could do to get it to stop. After turning it off and restarting the truck the same problem existed. I looked under the hood and the belt was on and everything was running normally and no fluid was leaking. I figured the power steering pump had broken causing me to lose this function, since the belt was still turning the pulley. As for the power brakes they get the vacuum boost from the power steering pump. Any ways after over $500 at the local dealer to install a new pump she is back and running. The shaft inside the pump had broken. Has anyone else had this happen or heard of this? The dealer hinted that my truck was not the first one to have this type of failure.

It's all good. They also discovered a bad wheel bearing. The whole hub assembly has to be replaced on the 4x4's. Nothing that another $500.+ couldn't fix. I can't wait for Fathers Day weekend to go riding.
