Air compressor
« on: June 05, 2006, 11:05:52 AM »

I am lookin to put an air compressor in the toyhauler........
Wondering, what you all would recommend. How many gallons & horsepower.........
I would want it to be able to do the truck and trailer tires if we pulled out in the sand too. I was also thinking that I could use it around the house if needed for work projects.

I am thinking about one of these..............

any thoughts?

Hey DJ,

I would go with the Ridged if your generator will run it. I see that it has smart start so it should be easer to get going. It will give you 4.9 CFM@ 90psi vs. 2.6CFM@ 90psi. I have an older emglo that is to big for my generator but on the same lines as the Ridged, it will pump up all the tires no problem. I also have one that’s a little smaller than the Porter Cable but it takes for ever to inflate the tires. So the more CRM’s the better for sure. After reading the specs on the Ridged it might be time for a new compressor.

P.S. Looks like I'm finally going to make it over to Winchester on July 28th-30th. We will be sand camping in spot 46 or 48. So maybe we could finally hook up for that cold beverage.

ok, well after reading up on some options.......i have found that the basic idea is the most scfm of air pushed at the most psi....so, i have made it down to 2 choices..........

now the final question.  one of these had an oil lubricated pump and the other is oil free/no maintance.................

any suggestions...............oh yea, one with oil is $329 and no oil is $259.
DeWalt or Rigid..........

Take a look.

I have one of each and have had good luck with both. But if I were to go buy one today I would lean toward the oil free. I still really like the smart start on the Ridged. I have found that is the biggest killer of both the genterator and air compressor, is the initial start up of the air compressor.
