I put some serious thoughts on all of this earlier last year when I bought my truck, however, I have been using iTunes to download music onto my iPod, and  i have 4,400 songs on it now.  So, last month I had a new sound system installed in the truck, with new Alpine deck, that connects directly to my iPod and the Alpine deck controls the ipod, so no fumbling around with the ipod when driving.

So, i decided not to go with the satelite radio, and went with the iPod

I can make as many differant play lists as I want, differant ones for rock, country, driving, and what ever else, besides, even with satelit radio, you still have to listen to what they play, on your ipod, you pick whatever song you want to listen to, and you can have your whole collection of music with you whereever you to!

I also installed headphones in my helmet, so, I jut plug my iPod in, and I got pull up my riding playlist and rock out while I am cruzin the dunes!.........just my thoughts, and something to consider.

I had satellite radio when I bought my truck.  I had problems with it going in and out, mainly while in the mountains.  I did not renew the subscibtion.  Sounds like DJ has the way to go.  I like that you can plug it into your helmet, wish I knew more about it.

Sounds like DJ has the way to go.  I like that you can plug it into your helmet, wish I knew more about it.

really easy actually, kind of spendy, however, I feel its worth it.  Once you purchase your iPod, you downlowed the iTunes program from Apple.  Now, you can start burning all of your current c.d.'s into iTunes, and also purchase music for iTunes for .99 a song, or $9.99 an album.  Once you have all your music on there, you can make differant play lists........driving, party, dance, country, or whatever, and only put the songs on those playlists you want.  All of your music will remain in the master list.  Then, plug your iPod into the computer with the cord included...........and wha la!  Done.
If you have the appropriate connections in your vehicle, plug the iPod in, jam away!  instant music.  no more buying and burning random c.d.'s  with all your favorite songs........you take everysong with you all the time.
My iPod will hold 15,000 songs........i can put pictures on it, tv shows, or whatever.
Now granted the iPod itself cost $399........but, it is WELL worth it as I said.

Now, for riding..........
I bought a simple pair of old style headphones.......i took out the side pads in my helmet and pushed the head phones in the foam pieces.......pushed the extra wire into the helmet behind the pad too.  Next, I bought a male/female extension, to plug in the headphone plug, (that hangs 4 inches from my helmet on the side), and run the extension under my shirt to a waist holder, (used to hold cd players when jogging) and just put the iPod in there, select "Riding" playlist and listen to my riding tunes when I am flying across the sand.

If ya need more info, or i can answer more ?'s let me know!  i could even take some pics!

Hey DJ,

Thanks for the info. I just downloaded i-tunes and got all my Cd's imported. Now all I need is the I-pod, we have a MP3 player so I'll have to make do with that for now. One question I have is do you know a way to make a wish list on i-tunes,  we would like to  browse thru music and make a list but not buy right now?

yes, if you go to your settings, (im not sure where it is cuz im at work, but i can update this when i get home) and change your purchase setting, you can put all the songs you want into a "shopping cart" and then buy them all at once.  thats what i do, because I don't want 5 or 10 charges on my card of $0.99 every time.  I would rather have 1 charge of the total price!

thanks, I was thinking the samething, two pages of .99cent charges..........LOL . Also with just getting started I'm sure I'm going to find hundreds of songs that I'm going to want to buy.(don't think the wife would like a $500 charge on the credit card the first month). This way I don't have to try and remember all the song I want, just dump them in the shopping cart and buy when I have the cash.

Hey DJ,

Sorry to bug you on this subject again but I'm  technology challenged. What i-pod did you have and what are the pros and cons of it? Do you think if my truck stereo is MP3 ready will it also take an  i-pod or is it a different kind of connection.

Thanks
Alan

not too sure about your connections......i don't know what your truck stereo and hook ups it has........

when I bought i my ipod, I looked at all of them........well, i figured that if I bought a small one and filled it up, I would want a bigger one........so, I bought the largest 60mb one...........yep, it is the most expensive.....something like 400.00 Shocked, but, it is the largest they make right now......so, i can put 15,000 songs, i have tons of pics on it too!

at least i can never complain about having to buy a larger one........

(buy the way, you ain't buggin me............no worries bud)
