Is it ever going to quit raining??  We will plan to head out to the "Bay" for our first ride of the year that weekend.  What is involved in the clean-up?  Can you get reservations for sand camping yet, or do you have to wait until May?  Or, will I even need reservations?  Winchester Bay always seems to fill up fast.

you will need to get rsvps somewhere........either windy cove a or b, Discovery point, or yes, sand camping is available through reserveusa.com.  the clean up will be held on saturday morning  for about 3 hours or so......when you bring back a bag of trash collected from the dunes, you get a ticket stub for the raffle, good for hundreads of items donated from many of the sponsors, like modquad and others!  I would get an rsvp soon, and don't miss your chance to help Sand Wizards Racing with their annual clean up!

I was just reminded today that for sand camping you can only make reservations from May 1 - Sept. 30.  We were planning to camp in site 47 or 48 which is just off the third parking area.  However, the ODNRA office in Reedsport informed me that access is not available (from the third parking lot) because of the small lake that has formed.  You can get out through the access from the second parking lot.  The sites are first come first serve.

SAND CAMPING
When you arrive at the area you need to get a map of where the sites are located out in the dunes and check the board to see what spots are already occupied.  Then unload a quad and investigate the open sites for access with your vehicle.  My 5th wheel does not allow me to just go anywhere, I have to be smart about getting it in and out.  Once a site is located bring out the rig, set up, fill out the site registration form and deposit it into the box for the rangers.

Your tow rig must have an off road permit (ATV permit) and a red flag to be out in the sand.  You also have to purchase a park permit, either 5 day recreation pass or an annual pass, that is displayed in the tow rigs windshield.  Also, remember that class II vehicles must have a fire extinguisher in them.  I just grab one out of my trailer.

The family sites allow up to 5 rigs (20 people) and the group sites will allow 10 rigs (40 people).

If anyone else is interested in camping in the sand during the SWR clean-up we will be there April 20 - 23.  It would be fun to have some neighbors for the weekend!

Dune dude, I was down to the 3rd parking lot yesterday and seen the water like they said. Well by the cleanup, I am sure that the water will be low enough to go out at the south end. If not, I am sure that you can take your trailer out at the north end. Several years ago they put some screp asphalt at that end. I could take my 5th wheel out there right now.

What rain that we might get from now on won't raise the lakes out there very much, if any. They are going down pretty good right now.

Towman 1,

Thankyou very much for the correct info.
Sites 46 -48 are easier for me to get in and out.

Your welcome. Anything I can do to help fellow duners out.  You sure can't count on the forest service for anything.
