Advice needed regarding Oregon Dunes
« on: July 25, 2005, 07:25:51 PM »

Thinking of heading up to the Oregon Dunes for Labor Day and have a few questions. Visited Winchester Bay once about 20 years ago and it was awesome! Am I too late as far as getting a reservation for that weekend? Do you need a reservation or can you boondock? Would love to get a spot where I can park my trailer and ride to the dunes from camp.  Any help and reccomendations would be greatly appreciatted....

Yeah, haven't been to the sand in a while and that sucks! Taking the WW on it's maiden voyage next week for a few day's of R&R in Santa Cruz. No sand toy's, but the Harley will go with us along with the golf clubs. Used to pay $3000 a week for a place at Rio Del Mar, will be considerably less to stay in the toy hauler.....

If your interested in sand camping you can try getting a site at Spinreel.  There are two sites available for that weekend.  I was there a couple weeks ago.  A little tough to get in with a TH but worth it.  Looks like it may be your only option if you want to ride from camp.

Thanks, I checked those 2 sites out and they both were not reccomended for an RV trailer.  Spinreel is the only RV camp spot that allows riding from camp to the dunes?

It just says difficult RV access.  I had my truck and trailer in there.  We also had two 4x4 trucks with campers and small trailers and one 2wd truck with a camper.  Someone else was in there with a fifth wheel TH.  The sand road starts out with a small incline and woops, then opens up into the dunes.   The best thing to do is to unload a quad and figure out what is the best way to get to the site.  Air down your truck and trailer and you should be alright.

So the campsites are in the dunes? That sounds pretty cool. If it's just sand then I'm not real worried about that... I thought it was clearance issues etc....

Most of the sites are tucked in the trees, some low hanging branches.
