Spring Break-Sand Dunes

We would like to go to the coast Mar 25-28. We can either dry camp in the sand at winchester Bay or go to a private campground in Florence with full hookups. Who is in and where do you want to go??

I think we would be into going to Florance. It would probably be easer to have the hook-ups and be out of the sand with your new baby. I have never been to Florance how dose it compair with Winchester? Also we have shyed away from the dunes on the busy weekend lately how crazy is it over there on spring break? I alway get nervous when my son and daugther ride they are only 6 and 8 and are still learning the ins and outs of riding. I have always taught them how to ride responsible, but you never know when some that doesn't flies over a dune into them.

Big AL, I agree with you about camping in the dunes on big weekends. Have you ever been or heard anything about the stone road across from Discovery point ?  I can tell you that for dry camping, or no hookups, that place is really great. Towards the end of the road there is wide spots that is sandy and really nice for kids to play around in. There is also little trails all around the spots that kids really enjoy to play on. The camping is really nice also. At least I think so. That road is open for alcohol to. anywhere else alcohol in not allowed. I am the camp host there during Dunefest. Last year we put 60 full sized camping units in there. Some of them were 40 foot 5th wheels to.

This is the area where Douglas county is going to be building the new camping area. There suppose to be building around 175 rv spaces there, and it is going to be eventually full hookups to. Showers and all. But that is in the future for that, until then, it will be just dry hookups. This is what I have been told.

This area is also where we, Sand Wizards, puts on our dune and beach cleanups. We really like it there.  Give it a try sometime.

Oh yah, the cost is $10.00 per night there. They do have sanicans and garbage cans to. Also a few picnic tables there to.

We have been doing it for the last several years and have not had any trouble with crazies yet. My two children are 6 & 11, they both ride their own quads and do a fine job at it. I will be reserving spots this week, Pm me for more info on the private campground.

Hi Pat

I think we are in for the spring break trip. We had our baby last Wed. so he will be 6 weeks by then and with full hook-ups we should be fine as long as every one is doing OK. How much is the campground a night? Maybe DuneJunkie can come up and we can have a members meeting around the campfire.

Congrats on the newborn. Post some pics as soon as possible. I believe the campsites are $22.00 a night. I will pm you bigal74 with the info as soon as I get it. It would be great to have DJ come over and have a meeting on spring break, and any other members or ones looking to join.

I am not ignoring you all, but, this week we have an inspection team here, so the days are LONG!

The weather this last weekenda was a dream. I hope for spring break it will be as good. Who else is going??Some of the friends from last weekend may come up for a while.

Sounds like you had a great time. How was the sand, I had a friend go over a couple of weeks ago and said it was pretty tore up and really wet? Were still in for spring break.

the sand was as smooth as glass. there were water pits around in several spots but not bad. the wind blew enough at night to smooth it our again for the next day. Sorry to hear you can't make it DJ.
