How often do you change the oil in your pulling rig vs Manufactures suggestion? Mine suggests 7500 miles and I change out at 3000. (13.5 qts)

I am following my Manuf. recommendations as well. 3000 miles...................
yea, it does get a little pricey, however, I look at it this way.
If anything EVER goes wrong with my truck, they can't give me no BS excuse on why they won't cover it.(major problems anyway). I take it to the same GM dealership that I bought the truck, so, they are the only ones doing the work. I may be paying more in the long run, but, I am thinking long term. They way I see it, if something goes wrong after all that, they can pay for it!

Ford reccomends 3000 miles on the PSD, but I usually strech it to 4000. After all the reading i have done on oil changes, and oil properties I figure I could easily strech it to 5000 mile intervals with no problems.

I change mine every 4500 to 5000 miles. I haven't had a problem yet.
Does everybody use diesel approved oil in there diesels ? I never have. I have alwayse used regular 10-40 Pennzoil in all my vehicles.

I have always used DELO 15w-40 in my truck, just beacuse it cheaper to buy by the gallon. plus its easier and quicker to dump 4 one gollon jugs, than open and pour 15 quart bottles.

using diesel approved is a must from what i have been told. I agree with Chocks, and use the delo. When I purchased the truck they offered me a lifetime unlimited oil change, lube and filter for 650.00. It has more than paid for itself now. Now it's got 24,000 miles on it and some change it's time for the rear end to be changed. I got the royal Purple with the friction modifier in it.

I have talked to several people from other sites about using diesel approved oils and they all agree with me. They don't use them and they also haven't had any problems yet. I am on my 3rd diesel and I have never had a problem yet. Why change now.
I have been told do not use Fram oil filters. They said that they will come apart and tiny pieces will get all through your motor. I have been usint them for a long time now, but I am going to change.

Unless I am mistaken, it is every 15,000 miles for non-extreme driving conditions, and every 7,500 miles for extreme (IE dirty conditions, trailer towing, or city stop and go) conditions. I am probably just going to go every 6 months (the time limit for an oil change according to my Dodge manual) because I will probably never put much more than 5-6,000 miles on the truck every year. It sits in the shed untill it is time for a dune trip to the coast, or St. Anthony.

Its a good idea to change your motor oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and if your towing quite a bit , you should change your tranny fluid ( including your tourqe converter ) every 15,000 miles , if you like playing it safe . Trucks are expensive these days , so I make sure I change all fluids on a regular basis . ( better safe ,then sorry )

I probably will only have put 2500 to 3000 miles on my truck every 6 months, so I'll just stick with changing it every six months As far as a MANUAL tranny, anything you need to do for one of those???

Depending on your driving habits , id just stick with every 15,000 to 20,000 , even if it looks clean and doesnt smell burnt . Again , better safe than sorry . Oil and filters are cheap compared to a new motor or tranny .
