I was wondering were you like to ride? It looks like most of us like to ride the dunes, but not much talk of riding on the dirt. What is your favorite places to ride?
I like Winchester Bay for the dunes. East Fork Rock would be my favorite place to travel to ride the dirt. Locally I usually ride around the Anderson/Griffen Cr. area.
Also what is your favorite out of state(OR.) trip? I would like to plan a trip this summer and am looking for some new places to go.

my bike is strictly sand. i am not a fan of dirt/mud riding. Windy Bay is on the top of my list, coos bay hauser & spinreel are great too! I haven't been to florence or sand lake yet, & I have dreams of glamis & st. Anthonys!!!!!!!!!!

Where are you from??? Sand Lake will be a very big disappointment for you, if you have to pass coos, winchester of florence to get there. I am not saying SL is a terrible place to ride, just small, busy and very little hills. For me... Windy bay is the most fun, followed by Florence then SL (havent been to Coos since about 89). I would love to make a St. A's trip in the near future

We are thinking of a Windy Bay trip on the last weekend in Feb. Just a friday/saturday & maybe sunday too! Nothing set in stone yet, because we don't know our work schedule, but the 24-26. We might just rent the bunkhouse @ Discovery Point and only take the bare necessities! quad, gas, beer, fart sack, and fire wood! Just the boys!

I am just passing this info! I hope it dosen't pi$$ people off here, but the group SWR (Sand Wizards Racing) are planning a trip in 07 as well. They have not layed anything in stone, but that is what I have heard. I think Towman would be better suited to say more on this, as he is where I got my info. They went last year and said it was awsome! Now, what a great trip that would be TI & SWR all rollin down the road to ST. A's!

I'm up for a trip to St. Anthony's in 07. I have never been there but have seen pictures and videos of the place, and it look like an awesome place to ride. Let start planning.

I'm gonna say it, but I've come to like the woods because I can load the truck up and be gone. 30 min to 1 hr later I can be on the trails. The dunes for me is a planned evolution over a long weekend as I live at minimum 4 hrs away from sandlake and 6+ from coos, spin reel etc. I have'nt tried out beverly and moses lake dunes here in WA as I always seem to be deployed during the summer. Someday though.

Unfortunately the job I do does not recognize spring break. Throw some dates at me, the weekend of Arp 7th is no good for me.

I was just reading up on this thread and thought that I would chime in. We the Wizards went to st.Anthonys last year 2005 around Memmorial day weekend. I left my home on a thursday morning a week before Memmorial day. I got there on friday and then the rest of the group came in over the weekend. We spent that weekend and all the rest of the next week, and through the weekend also. We left there on tuesday morning really early and drove all the way home in one day. Wow, I don't think that I will do that again. Just to far. We figured that doing it that way we would not have all that holiday trafic. We was right.
I think that our club is planning another trip next year, 2007 at the same time. I know that I am going back again. That place is incredable.

Any more thoughts on the St. A. trip? I know it's a long ways off but for a trip like that I want to take a week or more off to do it. So the more time to plan the better. Towman1 did you go on Mem. day weekend or just around Mem. day. If so how busy was it over there, and would it be better to go on a off weekend? Another thought I had was going Fathers day weekend so the kids were out of school, and making it easier to stay over there longer.

Hey BigAl.. Re: Dirt....Have you ever ridden the Prospect OHV system? Great fun! John's Peak is getting a little too boxed in with all the hullabaloo going on over where you can and cannot ride. Still fun though, especially if you go over on the Forest Creek side (stage at Bunny Flat).
That would probably be our favorite for dirt.
Thanks to Pat, Lisa, Jim, Bonnie, Mike and Wendy....my new FAVORITE dunes are Florence! Had only been there once previous to this past weekend. What a scream! Especially riding with all the nice folks who gave us the grand tour! A HUGE thank you to you all!
Favorite out of state is Glamis! About 13 hours to get there from where we live, but worth every minute of the drive!
Give us a holler if you want to ride at Prospect. It opens July 1st this year. We will be camping.
Happy Trails!

Hi Dunescreaminmama,
I have only rode Prospect on the motorcycle and yes it's fun. I like the Golden stair case trail the best. The only thing I don't like is all the road riding you have to do from trail to trail. We are planing to head up and camp/ride Prospect in Aug. Where is the best place to camp that you can ride out of? All the camps I've been in say no OHV's off the trailers. We have a Elk camp off the 6520 Rd that we were thinking about camping at, but would rather camp in a camp ground for this trip.We should try and plan a trip over to the East Fork Rock riding area, it's like taking the best trial at Prospect for 318 miles with no roads.

Hey BigAl74!
Have been curious about East Fork Rock ever since hearing about it. Would really like to get over there some time. Is it the same terrain as Christmas Valley? Or are there more woods? Yeah, those gravel connector roads in Prospect get to be tiring. They could do with a whole lot less of those. There are no improved campgrounds up there that I know of that you can ride out of. The campground peeps pretty much hate riders up there, especially Union Creek. If you hunt up there, I'm sure you've seen all the little drycamp spots. You can camp and ride out of any of them that are along the OHV system. We usually camp at the Buck Canyon Trail head just up from Claude Lewis staging area and will be there this July 4th weekend. There is a much better spot just up from there that is right on the river. The bad part about the dry camp spots, of course, is no campfire during fire season.
Someday when I get brave I'll have to jump on two wheels and do Golden Stair. Too narrow for a quad, from what I'm told. It's a favorite in our group too...the ones that ride bikes, anyway.
Let us know when your next East Fork Rock trip is, and maybe we can hook up over there. Always fun to meet up with fellow riders!
Happy Trails!

Hey Dunescreaminmama, East Fork Rock is more woods trails. There is no sand, but there are a few cinder rock hills to play on. They also have play areas with jumps near camp. It dose get dusty over there so you have to time it just right or just leave a gap between riders. We aren't sure when we are going again maybe in Sept. after some rain hopfully. Here is a pic of camp last time we went over. It's too bad they don't make one of the many campgrounds up in Prospect for the OHV's and let the other campers have the rest of them. I understand not letting all campgrounds allow them but it would be nice to have one. I thought I saw that you could camp at the Woodruff play area but not sure. We stop in at Farwellbend camp once to look around for future trips and use the bathroom. As soon as we stopped the camp host came over and said that we couldn't use the bathroom and would have to leave or pay for a campsite if we wanted to get out of the vehicle and look around. Needless to say I will never be giving that campground any of my money. Well have fun up there over the 4th, we will be up at Lake of the Woods that weekend.
