Sidewinder Chain
« on: October 12, 2010, 07:25:43 AM »

purchased a new Smart Chain from Sidewinder. After 5 Days of riding on a stock LTR450 with a cherry bomb the chain broke. I called Sidewinder and they told me that I heated the chain so hot, that I crystallized the metal, causing it to break. They told me that it had wear, (I was holding it in my hand, No wear on the sides) They didn't even want to see it. They said it was all my fault, without seeing this thing. Who else has had issues with Sidewinder. Their customer service is horrible. I will take this chain to a local shop to let people see what piece of crap it is

Thats Bullshit, they should stand behind there product. Lousy excuse, to hot.  I dont use there products any more.
I have been running REGINA GOLD o-ring chain on my quads, there expensive. But they hold up ,  80 HP at the rear tires not alot but the chains hold against it . 130 link can be found on Ebay , that will go around a +6 " swing arm on my Banshee. Most shops can order the 130 link Regina Gold for you. Average price is 80 to 120 $ a chain . I like the longer chains in one piece,  you only have one master link. You can buy them in  different sizes from stock to.....very long. Some shops carry it by the roll and you buy exactly what you want.
When I change my chain,  I  change  both sprockets to. At least once a year.
Did the chain damage anything when it broke? case saver?

when the chain broke, it tore up the plastic chain guide. We were able to file it enough to make it work the rest of the weekend.  We will never support Krause Racing again. I disputed the charge on my CC since they won't back it up. I will be displaying the chain at Carlson's  Motor sports for everyone to see what a piece it is.

Glad you were able to keep riding and did not suffer any major damage.
