I encourage rider/owners of performance 4 strokes who have not done motor work yet, to call and talk to some engine builders, go to a race track and talk to pro riders/riders about the life of there motors and the cost of a rebuild and frequency of there builds. Piston Life? 1) Cascade Innovations = Chris 2) Redline Racing = Cameron 3) Grand Prix cycles= Mike 4) Albany Supercross track , Albany. Banshees were in production here for nearly 20 years . There is alot of used parts out there, helps on rebuild costs. On the performance side of cost, a Cheetah cub cylinder is more in line with a 4 stroke head replacement cost wise. 2 strokes are faster and easier to work on, and even the book says that. If you do all your own work that helps alot. Some manufacturers have a 50 hour replacement interval on there 4 stroke piston, at the track one pro has taken his piston to failure 2 times right at the 90 hour mark on his 4 stroker. As for power increase for the buck the 2 stroke gets more. I'm not beating up on 4 strokes, just spreading the word on maintenance costs of a 4 stroke. The Honey moon is over now and many people are having to rebuild them and its not cheap.

Senator, yes they are wearing out now, and the repair bills are huge. Talked to Cameron last weekend about this, a customer waited about 5 years to have Cameron go thru his 4 stroke. He got a New top end , piston, crank and cases.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ There starting to need rebuilds................and they are expensive rebuilds. Preventive maintenance goes along ways. Change oils often, filters too. Keep your air filter clean clean clean. A little dirt/sand on the valves hurts them. They get hard to start and then $$.
