QUAD/TRAILER SECURITY
« on: May 08, 2010, 07:42:30 AM »

Protect your quad with a cable lock or lock when your not on it. They can be rolled away quietly and quickly , but putting just a pad lock thru the sprocket hub and over the chain will slow people up in a hurry. A simple cable lock  run between 2 quads sitting back to back is another good  deterrent, be sure and go thru the swing arm not just over the axle  - it's to easy to remove a tire and slip the cable  off. Even on trailers  left unattended  - lock them down. Night time is really bad. A personal alarm with a pull pin is cheap insurance and very loud when the pins is pulled out. Hard to see and can be mounted any where.
Trailers can be locked at the tongue with a Gorilla lock type ball lock. If your rims are slotted you can run a cable thru to the frame .
Locks are cheap insurance for grab and go thefts.
Summers coming and  Quads will be prime targets again.

More great tips Sanddemmon.

I might also add - lock up your gas cans - sneaky people like to drive through campgrounds at night and grab as many as they can hall.

Thanks Sandflicker,
your right, at 7.50 a gallon for race fuel and 2 stroke mix on top of that  could be an expensive loss for us.
37.50 $ a 5 gallon jug and I have 3-4 jugs with me when we go ride. 4=150$  ouch.
I run a cable lock thru mine.
thought =  The detonation from  to high an  octane fuel would knock a hole thru the top of there piston if they stole my fuel and ran it in a stock quad.................. Grin

another option for us light sleepers is: put empty beer/pop cans under the tires. I know this is an odd suggestion, but I also know of two bikes that were not stolen from windy bay because of this method.

The sound of the crushing can either wakes me up, or scares away the perp Grin
