planning a trip the end of july.
« on: June 22, 2005, 06:18:06 PM »

Providing i get my new toy hauler by then, a friend and i are planning a trip to the dunes. We mostly ride trails here in the nw , and have been to moses lake a few times. Where is a good place to go down there in oregon, that we can camp on the sand and safe for the kids too. anybody interested in going Huh?     thanks scott

we have the last week of july off. If that is going to work with you let me know. A good place to sand camp is winchester bay. Lots of people do it there, I never have but want to try.

pat, last week of july is when we are planning.  Never been to winchester but heard alot about it. Stupid question here,  will we need paddle tires for down there.  Riding in the sand at mosses lake, we never needed them. Where a re you located at in oregon, and how much further from you is the bay>      thanks scott

Hey scott. No you can get away without paddles at the dunes, but for the really fun hills you will need them. We were either thinking about winchester or Florence. Winchester bay has the biggest hills in Oregon, but you can't ride on the beach, Florence is really nice rideing and about twice the size with beach access. I live in So. Oregon about 45 min from the Calif. border. So if the time will work lets meet over at the dunes. We will need to make reservations real soon.

I would say for me, Florence is our favorite followed by winchester bay, To me coos bay is just better than staying home.

Hummm,
Roll Eyes I feel that way about Sand lake.
I have yet to try WA dunes. (Beverly and Moses lake) Nothing like OR dunes, but a place to go if a 6hr drive is out of the question. Have you guy's been to Christmas valley or Tillamook, or are you guy's just dune specific riders?

Bye the way, although the first night was rough, you know....getting to know your new rig night...after that we had a ball and the new Warrior has been christened. Oh yeah, and I almost turned my YFZ into a submarine crossing a creek. It's all good.

Unfortunatley the last week of July my daughter has Nationals in Columbus, OH but I will be in Florence on the 10th to 14th or 15th depending on whether I have broken any thing by then.

You guys should rethink your trip on the last weekend of July.  Dunefest is that weekend at Winchester.  Therefore I would think it would be tough to get a place to camp anywhere.
