DUNE SPIKING
« on: January 27, 2010, 06:49:08 AM »

On our last ride at Winchester Bay we found some iron fence posts  drove into the sand on top of the grass islands at the base of Superman. Only 8-10" was sticking up. Enough to damage a tire or throw a rider.  Angry
Be careful, look before you cross them.

Thanks for the tip, We will be there next month for Prez day weekend. It's probably one of those Environmentally Friendlies, the same folks who puts the nails on the side of the road from windy cove ( A & B) to the dune access.

Be careful Pat.
As this heats up I see them turning to this Terrorism  more and more. Yes I called you Dune Spiking assh---- "Terrorist". Just like the tree spiking killed loggers and mill workers they will kill some ones child and they will justify it as collateral damage in there war on the dunes.

Not to break up a good old fashion Wacky Enviro Tree Hugger bashing session, but I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt.  Some of the tree islands had steel fence posts and barbed wire to keep riders out of these areas.  You can still see them in the Florence dunes around show-off hill etc.  Over time they have become buried by the sand and not managed properly by the U.S.F.S. that put them there.  How are riders supposed to know where to say out of if areas are not properly marked?  Then the Wako's say "see they ride anywhere they want; utter lawlessness."

Don't get me wrong some low lying, inbred, moron from the shallow end of the gene pool could do something like this but I doubt it in this case.

DUNE SPIKING/ Bashing Greenies
« Reply #6 on: January 28, 2010, 05:53:43 PM »

DD,
I have seen those up in Florence. The ones at Winchester are new. I stand on this spot/area each time to take videos and still photos of our riding on Superman. My photos of this  grass  area show a constant sand pattern month to month.  No extremes like other areas. Nothing to bury a 5-6' iron post on established grass. This isn't around any tree islands.
Think its the Tree Huggers turned Dune Huggers.  Grin

I humbly stand corrected.   Embarrassed

OK, boys and girls sorry for the time out!  Back to the bashing..

Lousy good for nothing @$@#**&^%!  I hope they all go to .. some place other than the dunes.

Did you report the posts to the Forestry?  They should be notified to clean up the hazards.  Thanks for letting other riders know about the danger.

You know in another arena they're trying to ban lead fishing weights.  My point is  it's never going to stop.  I'd really rather not have to take a stand - but we know from past experience as outdoorsmen we're in trouble...  Grin Grin Grin

DJ - Please post this information to the Sandwizards sight.  I was going to but my computer is just not working well.

Thanks,

Have the spikes been removed or is that something we can do during the cleanup ride?

Spikes/fence posts.
I'm going prepared to find them/remove them on the clean up. And photograph them  on whats happening.
I want to run a rake and magnet across the access trails to try and pick up any nails that have been thrown on them. I'm sure alot of you have experience yarding out fence posts on the farm, but for those  who don't - you can take a pipe or strong piece of lumber and lay it next to the post and take a small chain figure 8 the chain to the post and "lever" it out pretty easy. you may need to reset the chain for a post set deep like these.
Personally  I will be walking thru or at least looking closely before riding thru something.
See you all at clean up.
Keep posting the date for new readers.
Sand Wizard clean up at Winchester April 24th
Thanks
