Greetings, Fellow Sand Freaks
« on: January 10, 2009, 08:18:20 PM »

My name is Tony, I live in the Portland area, married, 3 1/2 kids, 3 dogs, 4 1/2 horses, blah blah blah.

I've been riding quads for about 25 years, started out on a Honda 200M 3-wheeler, and bought my first Banshee in '89 when I was a freshman.  Still love Banshees, but also have an '06 YFZ450, which I like more then I thought I would.  It's mostly stock, I have a GYTR exhaust, K&N w/o lid, cam mod, Holz +2 steering stem, Answer Pro-Lock bars, Roll Design foot pegs, black front plastic, and I had all my shocks revalved and resprung by GT Thunder, and I run their rear linkage as well.

Besides the YFZ, I also have a Banshee that I don't like to talk about...I built it in my living room (thanks to the patience of my understanding wife) starting from the wreckage of a $600 bike that came from Alaska, and by the time I was done with it, it was too nice to ride.  It's really her fault; when I finally got it down on its wheels, I drug her (pregnant with our first kid) out of bed to witness it, and she took one bleary-eyed look at it and said "It needs more chrome", and stumbled back to bed.  It was all downhill from there...and now I have a very nice bike that I have WAY too much money into that I don't ride because I don't want to get it dirty.  Think my buddies make fun of me???  Oh yeah!  I'll post some pics of it on here when I have time to figure out how to do it.

I'm primarily a sand rider, but have been going to the Eddieville MX/GP track once in awhile, and we have a pretty good track here on my friend's place next door to me.  Grew up in Rockaway Beach, so Sand Lake was my backyard for quite awhile.  Never go there anymore, it's not worth the trip.  My favorite place (in Oregon) is Coos Bay, I love the Horsfal-to-Sprinreel ride.  Been to St. Anthony's, Glamis, Dumont, Pismo.

I have a 2003 Sonic Blue F-350 Powerstroke Crewcab that I usually pull trailers with, or sometime we use my wife's 2000 P-Stroke Excursion.  Speaking of trailers, we just started a Toyhauler rental business last year, Red Dog Trailer Rentals LLC,
www.reddogtrailers.com, so when we go riding I just take whatever trailer isn't rented out that weekend.

What else...I'm a Christian, work as a mechanical engineer, my dog's name is Lefty (he's a Red Heeler, hence 'Red Dog'), no favorite TV shows because I can't watch TV without wanting to break it, favorite movie is Monty Python's "Holy Grail", like pretty much all music except rap and hip-hop (but they aren't really music anyways), and come July I'll have 4 kids under 4 1/2!  Aaaahhhhhhhh!!!

Welcome Red Dog - great to have you sign up here at ATV gossip central.  We love our quads and enjoy the friends we've made riding.  We spend time with our families doing something the whole family likes to do.
Posting pictures; go to the Gallery and up-load to your own album.  Only drawback - you'll have to downsize the pictures first.  Or, you can up-load to photobucket.com then paste to the forum.

Good luck - and again - Welcome.

Greetings RedDog, love hearing about Banshee's. Looking forward to the pictures, I load mine on Flickr and then put the Link on my posting.  Sounds like you will have a bunch of riding buddies soon, LOL. Children are the future of the sport.

Welcome, Red Dog.  I took a look at your link, very cool I really liked the "Giving Back" section.  Hope to see you on the sand or at least on this site.  Stay tuned for more details about Sandfest 09.

Sooooo, my red brother from the same mother; after lurking for some time you have finally joined!
Welcome!!
Tis' good to get out past hangups and verbalize them.  Now that you have done so; I think that you are free.  Set the "stupid" bike (as you call it) free too.
 Grin
LOL.

I don't know if I can set it free...what if it doesn't come back?  Do I have to hunt it down and shoot it?  I can't, I can't!

And besides, if you guys can't make fun of me because of my bike, what else can you make fun of???  I mean, perfection is a strong word, but... Cool.

Think I figured out how to post pictures, so here's a few of my "Stupid Bike", so named because it's kinda stooopid to build your dream bike and then not ride it...

I set out to build my dream Banshee, which to me is basically an MX bike set up for sand.  This bike is pretty much what you would race on the national circuit if there was a Banshee class (except it would have a Laeger Chassis, and please don't tempt me to buy the one I've been watching for awhile...).  Yes, yes, I know "MX Banshee" is an oxymoron, but humor me a little...
(These were taken on the first test ride)

Here's a partial list of what's done to it:
Paul Turner Racing (Duncan Racing International) Engine Work, National Kit
Paul Turner Mid-Range Pipes
Welded Crank
Pro Design Adjustable Timing Plate
Pro Design Hi-Flo Impeller
Powdercoated Cases
Streetbike Clutch Kit
Cascade Hi-Capacity Radiator
Polished Clutch Cover
Polished Cylinders
Cascade Silencers
Chrome Motor Mounts
Billet TM Designworks Pipe Clamps
Cool Head
ATVFourPlay Long Travel A-arms
ATVFourPlay Steering Stem/Clamp
Tucker Pro Swingarm
Elka Dual Rate SSD Rear Shock
Elka Quad Rate Long Travel SSD Front Shocks
Chrome Rear Shock Link
Billet Front Shock Reservoir Clamps
RPM Dominator Adjustable Axle
Polished RPM Billet Axle Locking Nut
HardKor Rear Disk
IMS Roll Design Shifter
IMS-Roll Design Footpegs
Frame/etc Powdercoat
Shark Racing Front Bumper
Moose Racing Rear Bumper
Billet Key Holder
Billet Rear Brake Reservoir
Billet Brake Pedal
Cascade Billet Dip Stick
Cascade Billet Thumb Throttle
Cascade Gas Cap
Cascade Seat
Front Brake Billet Clamps
Front Disks
Handlebar
Handlebar Clamp Polishing
Misc Chrome
Polished Brake Calipers (all)

Polished Rear Master Cylinder
Polished SS Fasteners
Polished SS Grille
Polished SS Swingarm Bolt
Polished TM Designworks Billet Pipe Hangers
Rear Bumper Polishing
Stainless Brake Lines (all)

I think I've decided to try to sell it, and if someone won't pay a resonable amount for it, I'll have to decide whether to part it out, or just grit my teeth and ride the crap out of it!
