Helmet Requirements for Everyone!
« on: December 06, 2008, 12:03:33 PM »

Good day class,

I am under the understanding that there will be legislation submitted next year (2009) for a Helmet Requirement for all riders of Class I and III on Lands open to the Public.

In 2007 it failed miserably and never made it out of committee.

My personal opinion is if you ride your bike you should have a helmet on your head!  It sets a good example for kids and once you get used to it you feel funny riding without one.  My mantra on helmet use is:  You only need it in an accident.  Unfortunately, I am not gifted enough to know when that might happen...

However, I understand that adults can do as they seem reasonable.  That is why we couldn't wait to grow up.  And the  only person that could get hurt is the one that decided not to wear one.  Do we need the Govt. to protect us from everything?

What say you class?

I dont like the Government telling me what I can/cannot do.

BUT ON THIS HELMET LAW , YES'

I LOANED A HELMET OUT 2 YEARS AGO, THE RIDER PARKED THE YFZ 450 ON IT (THEY WERE WEARING IT) . BUT THEY WALKED AWAY FROM THE CRASH. I KEEP THE HELMET TO SHOW PEOPLE ONE EXAMPLE OF WHY YOU SHOULD WEAR A HELMET.

I would like to see neck braces on every rider...........where do you stop. you cant put people in a kevlar bubble, though some should  be.......... Grin

I E-BAY ALOT.
AND THERE IS  AN ENDLESS SUPPLY OF HELMETS OUT THERE BRAND NEW.
 IN ALL SIZES AND MAKES.
CHEAP. most are year end close outs.
NO EXCUSE NOT TO OWN A HELMET. COME ON , YOU BUY A 6-8OOO $ QUAD AND CANT AFFORD A HELMET. SORRY , NO EXCUSES.
My Daughter went thru Helmets as fast as her shoes, she grew very fast. At 10 years old now, she is 5'5".
Depending on the helmet brand she is either a Adult Small or an Adult Medium. And very proud to wear her protective gear.
My most recent purchase were 2 Fox Pro Pilot helmets Size = Adult Small. Blue and Silver. I paid 1/4 the sticker price on them thru Ebay. Brand new.
I wear a XXL in most Brands , and can find those easy as well.

I have seen how helmets can help you live through a bad crash too.  Let's face the fact, in a fall your head is softer than trees, rocks, quads and fence post (not to mention other things).  But I don't like baby sitting laws for adults.  I have heard from hunters they need to hear, and can't with a helmet on.  I disagree with this - as they could wear a half helmet and hear as well as have some protection.
My mixed emotions would still vote for a helmet law, because I see too many not wearing one.  But it would be better if there didn't have to be law to make people do what they should have enough smarts to figure out themselves.

I feel that more and more the govt. is telling me what is best for me and mine, I do not care for that. No one gets on our quads without a helmet on but that still should be our personal choice.

I would like to say I've never ridden without a helmet but its probably 50/50. If I'm in the dunes I have a helmet on, in the snow I have so much cold weather stuff on the helmet I have won't fit lol. I have wrecked my quad with and without my helmet on and it was my choice to not be wearing my helmet.
